American Cancer Society The American Cancer Society works to fight cancer with the help of volunteers giving their time and dedication for a valuable cause. Ask for Nona. Relay for Life 24-hour, fun-filled family camp-style event celebrating survivors, public awareness and raising money for the American Cancer Society. American Red Cross American Red Cross provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. Volunteers serve as the core of the organization and serve in a variety of ways. Please contact Lance Buckley, Volunteer Specialist. Angel's Way Maternity Home Angel's Way is a private home that houses women 18 years+ throughout their pregnancy, providing the necessities for their babies. Volunteers are needed to assist in special events, cleaning and gardening. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles Big Brothers serve as positive male role models to fatherless boys throughout Los Angeles. Big Sisters serve as positive role models in a young girl's life, as her mentor, her sounding board, or just her friend. Volunteers are needed for administrative duties and special events. Please contact Kenna Ellis. Note: Not accepting volunteers from outside the Los Angeles basin. Will begin accepting volunteers from the San Fernando Valley and surrounding valleys sometime next year. Canoga Park Salvation Army Thrift Store All proceeds from the Salvation Army Thrift Store go to help support the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center. Volunteers in the thrift store will serve through customer service, stocking and minor upkeep of the store. Please contact Capt. Young. Children of the Night Children of the Night is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing children between the ages of 11-17 who have become involved in street prostitution and pornography. It is imperative that all volunteers understand the sensitivity and confidentiality at the home. Please contact Mary Granville. Workshop Volunteer Children's Hunger Fund Children's Hunger Fund distributes food to needy children and families in our neighborhoods, and around the world. Volunteers donate their time to produce Food Packages and Gift Packages, for assembly and distribution. Please ask for Yasmine, acting director. Dale’s Garden Ministry Dale’s Gardening Ministry consists of weeding, picking fruits and vegetables. All proceeds are donated to Shepherd of the Hills Church. Help to provide and construct Care Packages. Please contact Laura Morus. International Students Inc. Impact the nations by befriending local visitors! Currently, hundreds of international students are attending local colleges like CSUN and Pierce College, and many of them are looking for friendships. With the help of volunteers from local churches, we are seeking more Christians in the San Fernando Valley to share their faith cross-culturally. Please contact Ian or Erin Downs at idowns@isiwebnet.net Los Angeles Mission The Los Angeles Mission is a nonprofit organization serving the homeless people living on the streets of Skid Row. The Mission offers emergency services, including hot meals, safe overnight shelter, showers, clean clothing, medical and dental services. There is also a program that provides long-term residential rehabilitation, education, job training, transitional housing and spiritual care. There are a variety of service opportunities available. Pregnancy Counseling Center The Pregnancy Counseling Center is a Christian-based center that works towards the prevention of abortion by educating women and offering them new hope. Volunteers are needed for a bi-monthly for newsletter preparation. Please contact Julie Ball. Pregnancy Resource Center The Pregnancy Resource center is a Christian-based organization that defends life by helping women in unexpected pregnancies and sharing the message of hope found in Jesus Christ. Volunteers are needed for an end-of-month mailing. For a monthly service schedule contact: Gayla or David San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission Emergency mobile shelter for families providing showers, food and clothing. Union Rescue Mission The Union Rescue Mission is a nonprofit organization serving the poor and homeless men, women and their families with many necessities and programs. VA Hospital Visit the men and women who have sacrificed so much for our freedom in the VA Hospital and bring the love of Christ. Director: Elaine Kibby. Ventura Rescue Mission Their needs are meal prep and service to homeless, counseling, mentoring and chapel services. Monday - Sunday from 9am - 7:00pm. Please, no children under the age of 10. Contact person: Chris Cavarretta, Volunteer Coordinator. Weekend Warriors Join Weekend Warriors on Saturday mornings for a variety of local mission outreach efforts. Some events include: feeding the homeless, cleaning up the community, boxing food for the poor, prayer walks and much more. All ages are welcome (no infants please). Check the church calendar or lobby information booth for a list of current outreach programs. Teams meet at the church and carpool to events.
