How to volunteer for LOCAL Outreach Projects

  1. Pray that God would show where you are to serve.
  2. You are responsible to contact the local ministry and arrange the time/date of your outreach project.

American Red Cross provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. Volunteers serve as the core of the organization and serve in a variety of ways.

Big Brothers serve as positive male role models to fatherless boys throughout Los Angeles.

Big Sisters serve as positive role models in a young girl's life, as her mentor, her sounding board, or just her friend.

Note: Not accepting volunteers from outside the Los Angeles basin. Will begin accepting volunteers from the San Fernando Valley and surrounding valleys sometime next year.

Children of the Night is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing children between the ages of 11-17 who have become involved in street prostitution and pornography.

It is imperative that all volunteers understand the sensitivity and confidentiality at the home. Please contact Mary Granville.

Workshop Volunteer
Organize a 2-hour presentation for children.  Mon. – Thur., 7pm - 9pm.  Crafts, make-up, "Improv" comedy, acting, animation, first aid, dance, jewelry making, needle point, origami, self defense, etc.

Children's Hunger Fund distributes food to needy children and families in our neighborhoods, and around the world.

Volunteers donate their time to produce Food Packages and Gift Packages, for assembly and distribution.  Please ask for Yasmine, acting director.

Dale’s Gardening Ministry consists of weeding, picking fruits and vegetables.  All proceeds are donated to Shepherd of the Hills Church.

Adopt-A-Block
Every Saturday morning at 10am go out into the neighborhoods to clean, paint, minister and pray to show the love of Christ.  Please contact Kelly Frick at (213) 253-7083.

Hope for Homeless Youth
Reach the unreachable.  You are able to talk to the street kids of LA, to minister to pimps, prostitutes and gang members.  Please contact Luke @ (213) 590-9825 or H4HY@hotmail.com

Hotel Outreach
This outreach is specifically designed for teams.  Go to downtown L.A. and minister to the kids of the Frontier Hotel.

Metro Kidz
Travel to housing projects and reaches out to hundreds of children to give the message of Christ.  Topics such as "Staying in School," "Anti-Drugs,” and "Anti-Gangs.”  Please call Olga @ (213) 273-7111.

Provisions Food Truck
Physical needs of the poor and homeless are met by delivering food to various sites and giving hope to the desolate people of L.A.  Please call Mickey @ (213) 273-7042.

Under the Bridge
This ministry makes 300 sandwiches a day and hand delivers them to the hungry and homeless huddled under bridges.  Please call Chris Van Winkle @ (213) 435-3624.

Emergency Services
Monday - Saturday, 8 am - 3:30 pm
Serve by distributing food, clothing, personal hygiene products and health care services.

After School Program
Monday - Thursday, 4 pm - 7 pm
Minister to children and youth and assist in the praise and worship.  Teach bible study, tutor, computer lessons, or arts and crafts.

Special Events
The Fred Jordan Mission hosts a variety of different events in which the poor of the community are invited to share in the joy of the Holiday seasons.

Easter Feast
Help feed the homeless individuals and families with a special Easter meal.

Mother's Day
Help with gift wrapping for mothers, and to serve the special dinner that is held in honor of forgotten mothers.

Back to School Days
Volunteers are needed to help pass out new outfits, shoes, and school supplies to thousands of poor children in the inner city of Los Angeles.

Thanksgiving
Volunteers are needed to help serve a traditional Thanksgiving dinner to the hungry of Los Angeles.

Christmas Party
Thousands of needy children and their families receive new toys, sacks of food, and blankets.  Come help to distribute these items during the Christmas Party.

The Los Angeles Mission is a nonprofit organization serving the homeless people living on the streets of Skid Row.  The Mission offers emergency services, including hot meals, safe overnight shelter, showers, clean clothing, medical and dental services.  There is also a program that provides long-term residential rehabilitation, education, job training, transitional housing and spiritual care.  There are a variety of service opportunities available.  Information packets and applications may be obtained by contacting Sheila Moweta, Volunteer Coordinator.

Women's Day Services - Outreach
Bring your enthusiasm and help in the Women's Outreach Department. Female volunteers needed during the week to assist in the organization of donations.

Clerical/Office Assistance
Assist the Los Angeles Mission staff with clerical and special projects.

Henry Salvatori Innovative Learning Center
Assist in tutoring students towards their academic goals in the areas of basic reading, math and grammar.

Clothing Drive
Participate in a canned food or clothing drive.  The Mission is always in need of new socks and underwear.

Meal Servers
Help serve during the noon and evening meals.  Meals are served Monday through Saturday.

Join Weekend Warriors on Saturday mornings for a variety of local mission outreach efforts.  Some events include: feeding the homeless, cleaning up the community, boxing food for the poor, prayer walks and much more.  All ages are welcome (no infants please).  Check the church calendar or lobby information booth for a list of current outreach programs.  Teams meet at the church and carpool to events.
