Dr. Greg Waybright
Senior Pastor, Lake Avenue Church, Pasadena, CA | Saturday, October 22
After twelve years of leadership as President of Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois Gregory L. Waybright accepted the call to serve as Senior Pastor here at Lake Avenue Church. Gregory L. Waybright and his wife Chris Waybright began their transition from Trinity to Lake Avenue Church with their arrival in the Pasadena area in September, 2007.
Gregory L. Waybright was president of Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois. He assumed this position on September 1, 1995. Prior to working at Trinity, Dr. Waybright had been pastor of the Arlington Heights Evangelical Free Church in Arlington Heights, Illinois. In his 20 years as a pastor he has also served as senior pastor of Grace Bible Church in Arroyo Grande, California and as assistant pastor of Calvary Memorial Church in Racine, Wisconsin.
Prior to 1978, Dr. Waybright served in ministry roles with youth and music in churches in Wisconsin and Illinois. For more than four years he served as music director and soloist for the Guenter Tesch Evangelistic Association, headquartered in Hamburg, West Germany. This mission work provided Dr. Waybright with ministry opportunities throughout Western Europe, Scandinavia, and India.
Dr. Waybright earned the doctor of philosophy in New Testament theology from Marquette University; his dissertation was entitled, "Discipleship and Possessions in the Gospel of Mark: A Narrative Study." He holds a master of divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, a master of arts in communication from Wheaton Graduate School, a bachelor of arts in biblical studies and philosophy from Wheaton College, and a diploma in pastoral studies from Moody Bible Institute. Dr. Waybright has studied and done research at Tyndale House and Cambridge University in England.
Dr. Waybright is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society and the Society of Biblical Literature. He has been involved with the Evangelical Free Church Mission (EFCM), serving as chair on the board and as a representative of EFCM to the Evangelical Free Church of America Board of Directors.
Dr. Waybright contributed to Dignity and Dying: A Christian Appraisal (Eerdmans).
He and his wife, Chris, have two children, two grandchildren, and reside in Pasadena, California.
Dr. Jerry Taylor
Assistant Professor of Bible, Abilene Christian University, Abilene, TX | Sunday, October 23
Dr. Jerry Andrew Taylor is Associate Professor of Bible, Missions and Ministry at Abilene Christian University. In 1984 he received a Bachelor of Arts in Bible from Southwestern Christian College in Terrell, Texas. In 1988 Dr. Taylor received a Master of Divinity degree from Perkins School of Theology Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas. He went on to complete the Doctor of Ministry degree at Perkins School of Theology Southern Methodist University May of 1995.
Dr. Taylor has served as the minister of churches of Christ in Sulphur Springs, Texas, Port Arthur, Texas, and Greensboro, North Carolina. He also served as the Associate Preaching Minister for several years at the Highland Church of Christ in Abilene, Texas. Prior to moving to Abilene Dr. Taylor did ministry among the poor living within the inner city of Atlanta, Georgia. He is the author of the recently released book entitled “Courageous Compassion.”
Dr. Taylor is one of the principal founders of the New Wineskins Retreat. He also organized a multiracial fellowship of young ministers known as the School of the Prophets. Dr. Taylor travels extensively speaking on college campuses, national conferences, and is a popular lecturer at retreats and Gospel/revival meetings.
He is married to Patricia (Bowden) Taylor formerly of Houston, Texas. They have been married for 20 years and have two children, Alisha (16) and Jeremiah (12). The Taylor family lives in Abilene, Texas and they attend the Highland Church of Christ.
Ken Whitten has served as the Senior Pastor of Exciting Idlewild Baptist Church, Lutz, Florida since October 1989. Idlewild currently has a membership of over 10,000 with active Bible Fellowship attendance over 4,000 and Worship attendance exceeding 6,000. Under Pastor Whitten’s leadership, in October 2005 the Idlewild family moved into their new 143 acre campus in northwest Hillsborough County. The seven year planning and building project for Idlewild’s 440,000 square foot phase I buildings on this new campus are now a reality. Although many things have changed as a result of this dynamic growth at Idlewild, one thing that has not changed as Pastor Whitten has led this church for the past twenty years is his passion to reach people for Jesus Christ. It is obvious that God’s hand is on this Pastor and this church.
Pastor Whitten led the church in establishing a South Tampa campus in November 1995, and in April 1998, a Central Tampa campus in the inner-city with an African-American Pastor. God has blessed both of these churches with tremendous growth.
During Pastor Whitten's tenure, the church has increased local associational giving, membership involvement with the Association has increased with several members currently serving on various Tampa Bay Baptist Association committees.
Having just celebrated 31 years in ministry, Dr. Whitten served on the 2010 SBC Great Commission Resurgence Task Force and currently serves on the National Board of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He recently completed his second 4-year term (2005-2009) as trustee to the International Mission Board, Richmond, VA. In 1995, he served as President of the 1 million-member Florida Baptist State Convention headquartered in Jacksonville and in 2002 as President of the 2002 SBC Pastors’ Conference held in St. Louis. He served as Moderator of the Tampa Bay Baptist Association in 1993, served as chairman of the TBBA Administrative Committee in 1994, and has served on the Program Committee and others. In addition, Pastor Whitten has served as chairman of the Committee on Order of Business for the 1999 Southern Baptist Convention and as chairman of the Tampa Bay Baptist Evangelism Committee. He also served on the State Board of Missions 1993-96, the FBSC Structure Committee, the Denominational Policy and Practice Committee, the State Administrative/Personnel Committee, and he serves on the Advisory Board of Global Focus, Inc. He served on the Executive Committee of the 1998 BGEA Tampa Bay Crusade. He has been privileged to preach at the Southern Baptist Convention and the SBC Pastors’ Conference, in various associational annual meetings, evangelism conferences, men’s conferences, and church revivals throughout the U.S. He has also been privileged recently to travel to West Africa, China, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Romania, Paraguay and the Holy Land. Additionally, he has written articles for various publications including The Minister’s Family Magazine, Caregiving Magazine, and the recently published One Year Devotional Prayer Book.
From 1982-1989, Dr. Whitten served on the ministerial staff at Bellevue Baptist Church, Memphis, Tennessee, providing pastoral care and leadership for the Eastern Campus, the satellite of the 25,000 member congregation. Responsibilities also included coordination and implementation of educational programs for single adult, college and new member ministries.
From 1979-1982, he served as associate pastor of North Jacksonville Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida; and 1977-1979, as associate pastor of the First Baptist Church, Casey, Illinois.
Ken Whitten is married to the former Ginette (Ginny) Vincent; they have four children and six grandchildren.
Bayless Conley

Dr. Ronnie Floyd

Dr. Ronnie Floyd has been a pastor for over 34 years. His experience, wisdom and passion for God make him a powerful proclaimer of God’s Word. He teaches principles from the Bible that encourage and uplift thousands of people all over the world via TV, Internet, podcasts, radio, speaking engagements and books.
Since 1986, Pastor Floyd has served as the Senior Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Springdale in Springdale, Arkansas. Under his leadership the church membership has grown to over 20,000. Thousands of people in Northwest Arkansas and across the world have been reached for Christ through missions, and in 2001, the church expanded to include a second campus in Rogers, Arkansas, The Church at Pinnacle Hills. With the addition of multiple sites, the church has become One Church in Many Locations. Recently, in order to strengthen our identity, the First Baptist Church of Springdale and The Church at Pinnacle Hills has now become Cross Church, with a third campus in Fayetteville currently under construction.
Dr. Floyd is the leader, founder, and host of The Summit, a weekly lunch seminar which hosts guest speakers from across the country. Each spring and fall, leaders share their insights on business, leadership, ethics, success, and life principles and values. Speakers have included John Maxwell, Former Governor Mike Huckabee, Reggie White, John Tyson, Truett Cathy, JB Hunt and many others, including Dr. Floyd himself. The Summit currently reaches 500 business people each week.
Pastor Floyd has spoken at many national and international conferences such as Promise Keepers, has been featured on numerous television and radio programs including Focus on the Family. He has also held several positions in the Southern Baptist Convention. In his three decades of ministry, Pastor Floyd has authored 19 books including The Power of Prayer and Fasting, revised and expanded and 10 Things Every Minister Needs to Know.
Pastor Floyd’s proudest accomplishments stem from his personal life. He and his wife, Jeana, have been married for almost 34 years. They have two sons, Josh and Nick. Josh is married to Kate, and they have three sons, Peyton, Parker, and Jack. Nick is married to Meredith, and they have one daughter, Reese, and a son, Beckham.
Francis Chan

Francis Chan is the best-selling author of books, Crazy Love & Forgotten God, and the host of the BASIC.series. He has also written the children’s books Halfway Herbert, The Big Red Tractor and the Little Village and Ronnie Wilson’s Gift. Francis is the founding pastor of Cornerstone Church in Simi Valley, California, and is the founder of Eternity Bible College. He also sits on the board of directors of Children’s Hunger Fund and World Impact.
Francis now lives in Northern California with his wife, Lisa, and their four daughters and one son.
